Excellence in Mathematics Teaching-EMT grant
Fostering Algebraic Thinking

Education Service Center Region 19 has planned 115 hours of research and standards based learning opportunities. Districts in El Paso and Hudspeth County have agreed to partner with us to enhance mathematics content and teaching.

Building content for the 2012 Revised Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills-TEKS in the area of proportional reasoning is a major focus for grades 6-8. Proportional reasoning plays a large role in building the foundation of Algebraic and Scientific concepts. Additionally, Suzanne Lamon states that 90% of adults do not reason proportionally. Therefore our challenge in engaging in this focus is hugely important for our students.

These sessions are the Mathematics teacher mentors who are part of the EMT grant.
