This session will provide a thought-provoking discussion of ethical issues that school psychologists face. Through examples and interactive participant discussion, the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP) ethical principles and their application will come to life. Participants will develop strategies for responding to different scenarios in an ethically appropriate manner. This session will highlight common assessment practices that School Psychologists engage in. This session will review concepts taught in graduate school such as reliability, validity, as well as sensitivity, and specificity, and why these terms still matter. This session is appropriate for participants of all levels.

Title:  Deconstructing Disproportionality for Special Education Evaluators

Disproportionality, particularly for students of color, has been an issue for school districts for over 50 years. This workshop will explore the role that assessment practices have played in this matter. Participants will review historical practices behind assessments, including the origin of cognitive assessments. This workshop examines different biases in assessment practices that can lead to disproportionality. Resources and action steps that evaluation personnel can use to improve their practice will be shared.
