Autism and Social Challenges: It May be FUN for You...but it's WORK for me!




As more students with autism are identified the need for basic information about autism has skyrocketed!

Social skills, which are FUN to some, are hard WORK for many individuals with ASD.
In this session the social challenges of autism and some evidence-based strategies to encourage social success will be presented.

Participants will experience and make-n-take some successful social interventions that will assist with outcomes from having rewarding personal relationships to academic accomplishments to overall quality of life.

Come prepared to have fun and be SOCIAL!

Objectives:
Identify and describe characteristics associated with autism and become familiar with several evidence-based strategies for social skills training (SST).

Use the 6 Steps for Implementing Social Skills Training:
  * Identify the Social Situation for Intervention
  * Define the Target Behavior or Skill
  * Collect Baseline Data
  * Implement the Social Skills Training
  * Monitor
  * Review and Modify
