3-Part Series ESC 19 Microcredential Academy: The AI Compass: Navigating Policy, Literacy, & Pedagogy is a focused professional learning experience designed to help K–12 educators move from AI awareness to confident, responsible, and instructionally sound implementation. Across three intentionally sequenced sessions, participants will build the knowledge, judgment, and instructional strategies needed to navigate the rapidly evolving role of artificial intelligence in schools—beginning with policy, ethics, and instructional frameworks; progressing to foundational AI literacy for educators; and culminating in classroom-ready, AI-enhanced instructional practices.

Important Session Information:

As artificial intelligence rapidly becomes embedded in instructional tools, productivity platforms, and classroom resources, educators need more than “tips and tricks”—they need clarity, guardrails, and a shared language for responsible use. Session #1 launches The AI Compass microcredential experience by helping educators and campus/district teams understand the policy and ethics landscape shaping AI in schools and what “responsible AI” looks like in day-to-day practice.

Participants will explore how to translate emerging legislation and governance expectations into actionable decisions at the district and campus levels—without overwhelming teachers or slowing innovation. The session emphasizes practical, educator-centered application: what to consider before adopting an AI tool, how to evaluate risk and instructional value, how to align AI use with learning standards and local priorities, and how to build a sustainable framework that supports instructional improvement while protecting students, staff, and data. Special attention is given to defining clear boundaries for acceptable use, transparency expectations, human oversight, and responsible decision-making when AI is involved.
