EMPOWERING ALL LEARNERS: A Deep Dive into the 3 Principles of Universal Design for Learning
DAY 1 of 3: Understanding the Principles of UDL - Purposeful & Reflective Engagement




Overview: This engaging three-part workshop series is designed for K-12 teachers who want to enhance their practice and support all learners, particularly those in special education who receive instruction in the general education classroom. Based on the Universal Design for Learning (UDL) 3.0 framework, this series will explore the core principles of UDL—engagement, representation, and action & expression—with the overarching goal of fostering learner agency that is purposeful and reflective, resourceful and authentic, and strategic and action-oriented.

Participants will leave each session with practical strategies to implement UDL principles immediately in their classrooms and will have the opportunity to receive personalized guidance through optional one-on-one coaching sessions with a Region 19 professional development consultant.

Important Session Information:


DAY 1 of 3: Enhancing Student Engagement

Explore how to cultivate purposeful and reflective learning experiences by tapping into the “why” of learning. Attendees will learn how to build a classroom culture where students are motivated to learn, develop self-regulation skills, and find relevance and value in their studies. By the end of this session, participants will be equipped with strategies to provide options for engagement that foster learner agency, allowing students to become active, self-regulated participants in their own education.

**Key Outcomes for Day 1** Participants will be able to identify barriers to engagement, design multiple pathways to foster student motivation, and implement reflective practices to enhance learner agency.

Coaching Opportunity:

To support the sustained application of UDL principles, participants will have the option to sign up for personalized one-on-one coaching sessions with a Region 19 professional development consultant. These coaching opportunities will allow teachers to refine their UDL practices, receive tailored feedback, and develop deeper strategies for supporting students in special education within the general education classroom.
