Enhancing School Counseling Effectiveness: An In-Depth Look at the Texas School Counselor Evaluation & Support System (T-SCESS)




The Counselor Academy is geared towards counselors with less than 3 years of experience, but all are welcome to any specific session.

Objective:

R19’s Counselor Academy is an opportunity for counselors to seek guidance while collaborating and networking with other new counselors across the region. Through this experience, counselors will gain tools to build successful programs while being supported and inspired throughout the process. These collaboration opportunities will provide an empowering environment  for counselors to learn effective proactive strategies while building professional confidence and forming powerful toolkits. 

Program Focus

Topics will vary by month. Topics this school year include: T-SCESS, Texas Model for Comprehensive School Counseling Programs, Foreign Transcript training, and TEA updates.

Session Description: This professional development session is designed to provide school counselors and administrators with a comprehensive understanding of the Texas School Counselor Evaluation & Support System (T-SCESS). T-SCESS is a critical framework for assessing and enhancing the effectiveness of school counseling programs, aligning with the Texas Model for Comprehensive School Counseling Programs. Participants will explore the key components of T-SCESS, including goal-setting, data-driven decision-making, and reflective practices. The session will also cover practical strategies for implementing T-SCESS in schools to foster continuous improvement, ensure accountability, and support student success.

Learning Objectives:

  • Understand the purpose and structure of T-SCESS.
  • Learn how to set meaningful goals and use data to inform counseling practices.
  • Explore strategies for reflective practice and continuous professional growth.
  • Discuss the role of administrators in supporting the effective implementation of T-SCESS.
