NA-Student Leadership Day - Clint ISD Part 1




The term 'homeless children and youth'
(A) means individuals who lack a fixed, regular, and adequate nighttime residence; and includes:

(i) children and youths who are sharing the housing of other persons due to loss of housing, economic hardship, or a similar reason; are living in motels, hotels, trailer parks, or camping grounds due to the lack of alternative adequate accommodations; are living in emergency or transitional shelters; are abandoned in hospitals; or are awaiting foster care placement;

(ii) children and youths who have a primary nighttime residence that is a public or private place not designed for or ordinarily used as a regular sleeping accommodation for human beings;

(iii) children and youths who are living in cars, parks, public spaces, abandoned buildings, substandard housing, bus or train stations, or similar settings; and

(iv) migratory children (as such term is defined in section 1309 of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965) who qualify as homeless for the purposes of this subtitle because the children are living in circumstances described in clauses (i) through (iii).”

Important Session Information:


ESC Region 19 will provide two three-hour virtual sessions for CLISD students receiving MKV services. The three-hour sessions will increase participant self-care/awareness/empowerment in the areas of: (a) leadership; (b) socio-emotional/mental health; (c) literacy; (d) college readiness; and (e) effective mindsets. The aim of the training session is to increase student empowerment through a series of learning structures and engagement protocols (i.e. specific content on each topic; reflection opportunities; engagement protocols (writing and sharing)). Furthermore, students will engage in a training model intended to strengthen personal outcomes in the areas of academic and behavioral skills. 2. Two virtual sessions will be provided: May 4th (8:45am – 11:45am) and May 18th (9:15am – 12:15pm) 3. The following campuses will be assigned as follows: a. May 4th: Mountainview HS; Clint HS; Horizon MS; East Montana MS b. May 18th: Horizon HS; Clint Early College Academy; Estrada JH; Clint JH

In the three-hour training, the following sessions will be embedded: Student Leaders Unite: Setting the stage and the owning the tools needed to build a culture of community. Live Success: Socio-emotional protocols on how students embody success as a mindset, a heart-set, and as always a strive forward. The Power of Literacy: Literacy is a life skill. Diving deep into a text is more than just reading words, it is about deeply connecting purpose, critical thought, and creativity. Think Like A Champ: Life experiences are a part of the process. Challenges are opportunities for victory. The power is yours to turn a dream into reality.
