CTE - Perkins V - Strengthening Career and Technical Education for the 21st Century Act
On July 31, 2018 the President signed into law H.R. 2353, the Strengthening Career and Technical Education for the 21st Century Act, (AKA: Perkins V) the bill that reauthorizes the 2006 Carl D. Perkins Career and Technical Education Act. We now have a new law governing the federal investment in CTE! What is the purpose of the new law? When do these changes take effect? Programs of Study
The new Perkins V Law gives us a clear definition. A Program of Study (POS) is a coordinated, nonduplicative sequence of academic and technical content at the secondary and post-secondary level that:
- Incorporates challenging state academic standards
- Addresses academic, technical, and employability skills
- Is aligned with the needs of industries in the state, regional, and/or local economy
