Dyslexia and the Bilingual Brain
Dyslexia Special Topics




This session assists in the identification of students with dyslexia in the EL student population. Participants will review the process of second language acquisition, research on the relative effectiveness of different language programs, the various types of orthography that exist around the world, and the benefits of bilingualism. Data gathering and formal evaluation, as well as, instructional programming for ELLs will also be reviewed.

The handbook contains guidelines for school districts to follow as they identify and provide services for students with dyslexia. In addition, information regarding the state's dyslexia statutes and their relation to various federal laws is included.
